Who We are:
The Stephen Ministry provides trained volunteers who support and encourage individuals experiencing a life crisis such as the death of a loved one, separation or divorce, job loss, illness, etc. A Stephen Minister meets regularly with the person and gives distinctively Christian care until the crisis subsides.
What We Do:
The Stephen Ministry is an international program that trains Christians of all denominations to be available to church members who are experiencing crisis (care receivers) and who need a supportive listener (caregiver) in a one-on-one Confidential relationship. This work is conducted under the guidance of a Stephen Leader.
How Can a Stephen Minister Help Me?
A Stephen Minister is . . .
- A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting
- A congregation member with gifts for caregiving, who was carefully selected to serve in this role
- A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care
- A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages Someone who will "be there" for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there's a need
A Stephen Minister is not . . .
- a problem solver
- a casual visitor
- a counselor, psychologist or therapist
- a person who provides physical services
Stephen Leaders are . . .
Trained leaders in our congregation who oversee and direct our Stephen Ministry.
